Choose wiki software

This presentation wiki is on pbwiki, which is very easy to use and free (pay to upgrade for more features and storage). It is a great site to use when exploring setting up your own wiki. Here are other options:

• Comparison of wiki farms on Wikipedia. "Wiki farms" = wiki hosted by someone else (like pbwiki).

• WikiMatrix: compare features of different wikis to determine which is best for you.

Give it some structure

People will be intimidated by too much freedom on a new wiki. Decide on a few main pages; create those pages and add some content, or just guidelines ("This page will list our policies regarding eating donuts at the reference desk" or "Things to do in Denver").

Set people loose

If people really take to the wiki it might be hard to keep things strictly organized; that's OK! Wikis can be searched!
